KEVIN MATHEWS UNITED STATES NAVY Born and raised in Odessa Texas, Chief Mathews enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1993. After completing Recruit Training and Basic Seaman Apprenticeship "A" school at Service School Command, San Diego, California, he reported to his first command in June 1993. Chief Mathew's previous sea duty assignments include tours in Amphibious Construction Battalion II (ACB-2), USS TORTUGA (LSD-46), USS SPARTANBURG COUNTY (LST-1192), SS CAPE MOHICAN (T-AKR-5065), and USS JOHN P. CARR (FFG-52). During his career, he has seen deployments to the Caribbean Sea, Adriatic Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Indian Ocean, Persian Gulf, and numerous operations and port visits in the Northern Hemisphere as well as Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti. Ashore, Chief Mathews was stationed at Navy Recruiting District San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas, Navy Recruiting District Richmond, Roanoke, Virginia, and Navy Recruiting District Jacksonville, Orange Park Florida. His civilian employment includes experience as a City Carrier Associate for the United States Postal Service, and Navy Science Instructor at Winter Park High School in Orlando, Florida and Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida. . He earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Organization and Management from Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley, California. Chief Mathews is designated as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (5 awards) and various unit and campaign awards. |
